Terms of Service
Last updated: August 10, 2026 · Version t4
These terms are an agreement between you and Vestalis SRL, an Italian limited liability company, VAT IT10843950964, registered at Galleria dei Borromeo 3, 35137 Padova (PD), Italy (“we”, “us”). They govern your use of Vale, a free group-dinner service delivered by text message.
Before you text, the page you came from asks you to tick a box that says: “I accept the Terms. I understand that nobody at the table is background-checked, that my first name is shared with them, and that I am RELEASING Vale FROM LIABILITY FOR ITS OWN NEGLIGENCE — not for gross negligence or intentional conduct. If I am ever removed for safety reasons, a one-way fingerprint of my number is kept so the removal holds, even if I ask for my data to be deleted.” If you reached this number another way — a code you scanned, a number someone gave you — these terms still apply, and this page is your copy of them.
1. You must be 18 or older
Vale is for adults only. If you tell us you are under 18, or we have reason to believe you are, we will close your conversation and delete what you have told us. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
2. What the service is
Vale is an artificial intelligence. It says so in its first message to you. It asks you a short series of questions by text message, puts you on a list, and then invites you to dinners with a small group of people you have not met.
A person — a human being — puts every table together and books every restaurant. Nothing about who sits with whom is decided automatically.
The dinners are free. There is no fee, no membership, nothing renews and nothing is ever charged. You pay the restaurant for what you eat and drink, like anyone else at a restaurant.
We do not promise you a dinner. Not a date, not a neighborhood, not a number of invitations, not a friendship. Tables come together week by week from the people on the list, and some weeks yours will not.
We run in Austin, Texas, and nowhere else for now. You can join the list from anywhere; the dinners are here.
3. Messaging program
- Program: Vale sends you the onboarding questions, invitations to dinners, the details the day before, and a short check-in afterwards.
- Frequency: a handful of messages while you answer the questions, then nothing until there is a table for you. In a week when you have a dinner, expect a few messages; in a week when you don't, expect none. Once a month we ask whether you have seen anyone from the dinners since.
- Cost: we charge nothing. Message and data rates may apply from your carrier.
- To stop: reply STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE or CANCEL at any time — or simply tell us to stop in your own words, and write to info@textjuliet.com if you prefer. There is no single channel you have to use. If we have ever sent you a message, you will receive one confirmation and then nothing further. We act on it immediately, and in any case within ten business days.
- For help: reply HELP, or write to us at info@textjuliet.com.
- Carriers: mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
4. What you tell us must be true
The service only works if what you tell Vale is accurate — your age, where you live, when you are free, and anything you cannot eat. Someone books a table for six on the strength of it. We may end your use of the service if you misrepresent something material.
5. Turning up, and telling us if you can't
A table is six people, and five of them are counting on the sixth. If you cannot make it, tell us — a message is enough, any time before the dinner. Nothing happens if you do; the table is simply five.
We do not charge for missing a dinner and we do not penalize you. But if you repeatedly confirm and do not turn up, we may stop inviting you.
6. Your first name goes to the table
The day before a dinner, we tell each person who is coming — by first name only. That is the point of the message: five strangers become five names before anyone walks in. We never send your phone number, your last name, your address, or anything you told us in the interview.
What the others do with your first name is not something we control. If you would rather not be named, tell us and we will not put you at a table.
7. Meeting people — read this
We do not run background checks on anyone at the table, and we do not verify identity. A person reads what each of you told us, and that is the whole of our screening. We are not present at the dinner and we do not supervise it.
And a background check would not make this safe either. Where they are run, they miss what was never reported, what happened elsewhere, and what has not happened yet. We would rather tell you we do none than have you trust one.
The restaurant is a public place, and that is on purpose. Arrange your own transport, tell a friend where you are going, and leave whenever you want to leave — you owe nobody an explanation.
If someone at a table made you uncomfortable or unsafe, tell us. What you send goes to a person, not to an automatic system.
8. What you are agreeing to about risk
You are meeting people we have never met either. We tell you what we know, which is what they told us, and that is the whole of it.
ASSUMPTION OF RISK. YOU UNDERSTAND THAT MEETING STRANGERS IN PERSON CARRIES RISKS THAT NOBODY CAN REMOVE, INCLUDING THE RISK OF PHYSICAL INJURY, ILLNESS, HARASSMENT, THEFT, EMOTIONAL DISTRESS, OR DEATH CAUSED BY ANOTHER PERSON AT THE TABLE OR BY ANYONE ELSE PRESENT. YOU KNOWINGLY ACCEPT THOSE RISKS AND CHOOSE TO ATTEND ANYWAY.
RELEASE. YOU RELEASE VESTALIS SRL, ITS OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES AND AGENTS (“VALE”) FROM ALL CLAIMS FOR INJURY, LOSS OR DAMAGE ARISING OUT OF A DINNER OR OUT OF ANYONE YOU MEET THROUGH THIS SERVICE, REGARDLESS OF CAUSE AND INCLUDING CLAIMS CAUSED OR CONTRIBUTED TO BY VALE’S OWN NEGLIGENCE, WHETHER IN CHOOSING WHO SITS TOGETHER, IN CHOOSING A RESTAURANT, OR IN WHAT WE DID OR DID NOT TELL YOU.
WHAT THIS DOES NOT COVER. THIS RELEASE DOES NOT APPLY TO GROSS NEGLIGENCE, TO INTENTIONAL OR RECKLESS CONDUCT, OR TO ANYTHING THE LAW DOES NOT ALLOW US TO BE RELEASED FROM. IT DOES NOT RELEASE THE PERSON WHO ACTUALLY HARMS YOU — WHATEVER CLAIM YOU HAVE AGAINST THEM IS UNTOUCHED BY THIS AGREEMENT, AND WE WILL NOT STAND IN THE WAY OF IT.
If that paragraph made you hesitate, read it again rather than skipping it: it is the part of this agreement that costs you something. It says that we choose who sits at a table using what people tell us, that we can get that wrong, and that you are the one who decides whether to go.
9. Things you may not do
- Use the service if you are under 18.
- Use a dinner to advertise, recruit, solicit money, or send anyone to another service.
- Harass, threaten or deceive anyone you meet through us, or pass on what they told you at the table.
- Send content that is unlawful, or that shows a person under 18.
- Attempt to interfere with the service, or to extract other people's information from it.
10. Ending this
You can stop at any time by replying STOP, and you can ask us to delete everything we hold about you — see the Privacy Policy.
We may end your use of the service if you break these terms, if we cannot serve you well, or if we stop offering the service.
Removal for safety. If someone tells us that a person at their table made them feel unsafe, we may stop seating that person while we look at it. One report is enough, and we do not investigate: we are not deciding whether anything happened, only who we are willing to seat. If that person is you, you can write to us at the address below.
If we remove someone for safety, we keep a one-way fingerprint of their phone number so the removal holds even if they ask us to delete their data. Anyone who only has that list cannot turn it back into a number — the key that makes it readable is kept separately and is never stored with it — and it is not linked to anything else. This is the only thing that survives a deletion request, and it applies only to someone removed for safety — see the Privacy Policy.
11. No warranty, and the limit of what we owe you
The service is provided “as is”. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, that messages will always arrive, that you will be invited to a dinner, or that any evening will suit you.
To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to one hundred US dollars. The service is free, so there is no fee to refund; this figure exists so that the limit is a number and not a zero. We are not liable for what happens between you and anyone you meet through us — we introduce, we are not present, and we do not supervise.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
12. Changes
We may change these terms. If a change is material, we will tell you by text message before it takes effect, and continuing to use the service means you accept it.
13. Governing law
If you live in the United States, the consumer-protection laws of your own state apply to this agreement, and nothing here takes them away from you. That is not a courtesy. A choice of foreign law does not override the mandatory consumer rules of the place where you live, and we are not asking it to.
Everything those rules leave open is governed by the laws of Italy, where we are established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
